Re: townshend rock 2 tonearm mounting plate improvent??
Ive got plenty of bits of hardwoods here, walnut, some very dense and old oak, some beech and some sapele thats kinda soft if you want me to send some bits to experiment with? Saves buying panzerholtz or ebony which might not float yer boat.

Re: Nothing In Particular
Quite frankly, going from a 'commercial' ( if you can call an f5 clone commercial) power amp back to my diy se el34 was a shock. A real shock as the el34 is shit compared to it. Spending nearly 10 years with diy amps I had no frame of reference to compare my efforts with. The commercial side is real...

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
Listening to a new copy of led zep 4 atm, it hasn't half got some life to it. Seems to dig right in and bring more detail out, and and and ect.
Seems sensitive to azimuth, needs to be tweaked spot on or the soundstage gets small

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
There is a tiny bit of mechanical hum from it, I could probably pretty much shut it up with some thicker rubber washers anyway. As it will be in a cupboard its unlikely I would hear it anyway. Didnt hear anything from it in use until I stuck my head in the cupboard to turn it off. So just a thermist...

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
Cheers Ali and Phil. Ive taken it back out and gone to normal mains to check im not hearing what i want to hear, and I think the is an improvement with it in. So i'll make a nice box for it to go in. I can switch it off at the wall as there is a separate socket inside the cupboard it will be sat in,...

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
Ok, so plugged the amp, phono stage, step up and deck into the bmu and I can hear a difference. in the hf mostly, on decay on cymbals ect. The micro detail. It seems smoother over the range, a subtle tightening up in the bass. Wether this is the motor in the deck behaving better I'm not sure, there ...

Re: A unipivot made from scrap
Bought a new cart today, I decided to go (after much deliberation, carts seem to be a bloody minefield these days) with an audio technica at150 sa moving magnet. I like the new audio technicas, i couldnt stand the old ones such as the original oc 7, 9 ect and the low end stuff like the at95 ect. Blo...

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?
My bad, t'was the voices on it that foxed him Steve ( the guitar teacher) has a really nice approach in that he asked for a list of bands she liked the first time he came. Next time he came he started based on the list. She had the openings to everlong and buck Rogers ( the feeder song) to practice ...
