Interesting. My KR 300BXLS sounded horrid after running at 4.4V DC for a long time, progressively getting worse. Maybe running them a little closer to 5V would be better though.

I think they sounded better over voltage, but it's only hunch as I didn't run them like this long enough to be sure.

My (well, Andrew's really) C3g Aikido phono has selectable load resistors - 12 to choose from at the flick of a switch.

I've wondered about ESR before. How would I find find a cap's ESR rating - it's not something commonly listed. And how would I know whether that's good, bad, high or low?

Have you tried modelling the PSU in PSUDII Dave? It's very interesting to see what happens when you play around with components and values, and it's pretty easy to use once you've got the hang of it. It's a useful starting point when considering how to tweak (and build) the PSU.
