I've had a play with the PSU tonight. Before I had: GZ30 -> 10H 82DCR -> 40uF Sprague -> 390R -> 94uF Cerafine And I've just tried: GZ30 -> 14H 429DCR -> 47uF Cerafine -> 14H 429DCR -> 47uF Cerafine They model pretty similarly in PSUD but the 2 14H chokes give a smaller ripple and approx 10V less HT...

However as soon as the HT is applied to the output tubes BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM we have a stunningly good low frequency oscillator. and I know you managed to sort Simon's Blatting 2A3 In my case the BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM was due to lack of gridstoppers on the C3gs and it made the 0A2 VR tubes click like...
I used to think my old Linn Keilidhs and Exposure amps were pretty heavy. But single ended valve amps and large full range horns are a different ball game. Now I'm starting to think of my hi fi to be a little like a Land Rover. It's incredibly heavy, is rather large, looks kind of functional (which ...

Thanks for the perspective Dave. The amp I want to try is James D's circuit - he reckons it's the best sound he's ever achieved with his Quasars. Not sure why he isn't using one now, perhaps the quest to achieve something better? There's not a lot to it in the way of resistors and caps but there are...

Comrade Simonski is dabbling in very uncommunistic practices - we've just put the house up for sale. So all my mdf and clipleads have been packed away for a while. But the phono stage is slowly being fettled, and I've plans to build the mythical ECL82 spud amp, and a Steve Bench type series reg expe...

Thanks NickG, and a 10uF cap on the lower leg of the PD too. I saw Nick suggest this earlier in the thread. Just wondering how you choose the value of the cap - I've used a similar arrangement on my headphone and phono amps but only used 0.1uF (cos that's what Broskie showed :wink: ). Simon (Junior...

Hi Colin, Well, when I said it was pretty much finished, I was obviously kidding myself :D . I'm already thinking about a slightly different PSU, and possibly replacing some of the resistors in the Aikido with booteek ones. These things are never finished really, are they :wink: And now I can break ...

Ah, sorry Darren, probably wasn't very clear if you didn't realise it was an Aikido... :oops: First valve in the Aikido is 6CG7 or 6FQ7. The 6CG7 has the screen separating the two triodes and apparently the physical stiffening this adds also helps the sound (according to John Broskie...) The second ...
