I wonder if the hum you are getting, Philip, is 100% from your heaters. For hexample. I have always used AC with humbuckers on the 211s of my ongaku. No hum with 93dB speakers if 'tuned' in. So, you could use the centre tap for the cathode resistor and cap and the pot across the heater elements and ...

well I'm not convinced about DC at all! E.G. that wad300BPP, just one of the 'upgrades' is to use DC heating on the input & driver valves. It occurs to me that reverting to AC, maybe take a midpoint with a couple of resistors down to earth or even Use a PP3 to raise the AC heaters a bit - mightn...
