The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Fantastic weather so I headed out around some of Somerset's leafy lanes to round off the week.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Nice !
For more general interest, here some endurance that even Ray can only dream about :
https://live.opentracking.co.uk/sowjune2021/
She's now closing in on the outright record for the Wainwright summits.
Maybe less than six days to do what I have so far spent 39 years to accumulate !

8 hours ahead of schedule. Insane.

That's amazing Mark though, whilst it'll be some achievement, I'm not sure she'll be getting as much simple pleasure as you have over the 39yrs?

Probably not in the last couple of days ! However I did watch a few short videos about her last attempt in May, and it sounds like she genuinely enjoys the time out on the fells, even on the record runs. She said the process of recce-ing all the links and shortcuts across the route, over the last couple of years, had been very rewarding. Only 11 summits left now..

Extraordinary. I thought that was out of the question, then saw her continue from Duddon without a proper stopover.

No cheese and piccalli sandwich and a packet of crisps?
Pffffttt, I'm out.

No cycling today, instead I walked the canal towpath with three colleagues - something of an office reunion!

That's a decent distance.
I've just been out for a slightly longer ride, 1 hour 47 mins. Was a bit slow going out, there was a boisterous Southerly blowing into my face. Also had to hunker down in a small layby at one stage while a convoy a 4x4 tractors, harvesters and grass trailers came past.
It was a bit more chilled out on the way back, the only notable thing was a race with a squirrel. It decided that the best way to be safe was to run alongside me, I think we were doing nearly 20mph.

Good to see you're out and about Mark.
Apart from a similar wind blowing there's damp in the air and the forecast was for heavy rain so I treated myself to an indoor ride - in the event it stayed dry! Anyway, I virtually rode Alpe d'Huez again, seeing as Le Tour starts next weekend.

Still not cycling - now waiting for my knee op...
Seeing the consultant in 10 days... now out of the NHS and have been passed/outsourced to a Nuffield Health clinic on the lists of, luckily, the knee surgeon I wanted to use and if push came to shove and the pain got too much, I would have paid significant moolah to have seen privately...
So, essentially it's a private health op in a private clinic but on the NHS, so no/very small waiting time and no extra costs... NHS in this area are doing this quite a lot as it means they can concentrate on the seriously acute stuff, like cancer patients and the routine irritating dross, like me, get shipped off into the private sector.

I hope it works out with the knee op and you can resume your exercising Nick.
After a couple of weeks of real soreness the problem with my knee just cleared up and I've had no problems since. I feel a bit ambivalent about jogging again though.

This year's going to be a write-off - the rehab after major surgery (it counts as major as it takes 2-3 hours and has significant risks) is 9 months...
