I've also just remembered that I was wearing a brand new pair of Levi 501s with an expensive leather belt - they cut the jeans off me without undoing the belt!
Awww. without the cutting that would have removed the need to sit in a cold bath for 20 minutes...remember that?

Thanks Neal. Things might be a little easier after a meeting tomorrow.

Wrist type blood pressure monitors?

My Mum has great trouble using her blood pressure monitor, mainly due to fitting the cuff on the upper arm.

Has anyone here had any experience of wrist fitting blood pressure monitors ?

Yep, I used one to provide numbers for a review instead of having to attend surgery. Seems fine.

Thanks Nick, I've now ordered an Omron RS3. :)

That looks similar to the one I used.

I have both wrist and arm BP monitors and have checked myself for years - the arm one seems to be more consistent and gave the same results as my doctor's readings whereas the wrist one gives occassionally spurious results and readings are slightly lower than the arm band one. The wrist one is less of a faff though.

With both my parents dying from heart failure.. I probably need to check mine more regularly. Should have done it today after I came off the cross trainer for the first time since doing my knee in, all the warning lights would have been flashing. :(

High BP isn't known as the silent killer for nothing - lots of people aren't aware or don't want to know...

Mine was really high but now I've lost 5st and look after myself with diet and exercise I'm typically seeing readings lower than 130/70 - this evening, after work, I did a virtual bike ride around Innsbruck;

I was so stupid.

My dad had a stroke , but his was due to blocked arteries because of smoking , I don’t smoke so thought it was ok.

In 2011 I had an operation on the tendons in my thumb which I had damaged doing hifi diy .the anaesthetist told me I had high bp

I thought certain lifestyle changes and becoming a father meant I was fine.

What an absolute idiot I was. I nearly died when my boy was only 3 .

Now I have bp at 117/77 and resting heart rate of 63. That’s been four years of hard work and daily rehab
