Of course not, it's a bike saddle not an abacus...

"Bicycle is the slow death of the planet."

A banker made the economists think this when he said:

“A cyclist is a disaster for the country’s economy: he doesn’t buy cars and doesn’t borrow money to buy. He don't pay insurance policies. Don't buy fuel, don't pay to have the car serviced, and no repairs needed. He doesn't use paid parking. Doesn't cause any major accidents. No need for multi-lane highways.

He is not getting obese.

Healthy people are not necessary or useful to the economy. They are not buying the medicine. They dont go to hospitals or doctors.

They add nothing to the country's GDP.

"On the contrary, each new McDonald’s store creates at least 30 jobs—actually 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 dietitians and nutritionists—obviously as well as the people who work in the store itself."

Choose wisely: a bike or a McDonald's? It's something to think about.

~ Emeric Sillo

PS: walking is even worse. Pedestrians don't even buy a bicycle!

Careful Steve, you are in danger of further promoting the fake argument, beloved of culture-wars newspapers across the country, that cyclists don't pay road tax - and they should ... whereas probably 95% of cyclists own a car and pay road tax.

83% is the figure I found. But still valid.

I probably didn't allow enough for cyclists living in big cities.

I posted it for your amusement. Cyclists don't generally chisel away at the pillars of capitalism, spending stupid money on carbon frames, lycra etc, flying out to the alps and Canada to ride. I am an enemy of capitalism, only replacing things when broken, not flying and generally not spending.

Actually, nobody pays road tax anymore, which makes the argument against cyclists not paying it even more vexacious.

Owners of vehicles pay VED (vehicle excise duty), essentially a tax on your vehicle, which increases depending on the impact your vehicle has regarding CO2 emissions. It's also worth noting that something over 90% (by cost to repair, IIRC) of the physical damage done to roads is caused by heavy goods vehicles.

So next time a car driver tells you cyclists don't pay road tax ask them how much tax they pay for the pollution they create.

Tadej Pogacar is going to win the Tour unless he crashes.
Obvious now after the finishes on today's stage and yesterday !

He looks strong but you never know, we'll find out more now that the TdF is really getting underway with some serious climbing.

I do think I know, to the extent that I'll put a wager on the table that he'll win unless he crashes. I can't remember seeing anyone so strong, even outside of his supposed disciplines. He was threatening to win the 'Paris Roubaix' stage on Wednesday, and outsprinted Michael Matthews yesterday.
I thought Geraint Thomas's comments early Wednesday were very interesting.
Interviewer "Well, what do you think about Pogacar ? ... I mean, his team doesn't look that strong"
"Yeh, but I don't think it really matters"
"What do you mean ? "
"Well , he's got diamond in his legs, hasn't he ?
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he wins today's stage ! "

Today's stage will be great, I'll be away till later but have 3 hours of it recording this afternoon.
