There's one current 'thing' that's got me worried that there's an Invasion of the Body Snatchers in process.
At work ( particularly ) people keep sending emails around that say : "see the below diagram"

"see the below part drawing"
etc etc
When i ask them where on earth this new word-order thing came from, they either don't reply, or look at me like i'm slightly mad. I try to tell them that such a thing didn't exist until about 4 years ago and get blank looks.
Enjoy has become an imperative. It seems to be used everywhere now. I struggle not to respond.

Something that’s crept in since Covid. Every other customer I speak to ends the call with “take care”. I rather like it, but it still sounds odd.

'Perfect'hit our linguist shores quite a while back and somehow refuses to die. The best most ludicrous example I've come across so far is when observing a young trainee take medical history details from a new patient, she asked, scribbled furiously supposedly encouraging the patient peppering her performance with 'perfect' even to the extent of saying perfect to the reply that the patient's husband had died two weeks ago. She did not notice the patient's pain, eventually passed her exams and now is a perfect Audiologist in another hospital... still, reportedly, using 'perfect' in all manner of situations likely never appropriate.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

On the western shore of Windermere we have a (NT) cottage. Earlier this week the shower flooded. This morning no electricity so no heating and no water.
I have been speaking to a very polite well spoken young woman who while discussing the situation and possible remedies used the phrase, not word, 'absolutely great' twice. Not rising to the obvious bait I said, having been asked if a suggested remedy would be ( only) okay I answered that it would be 'perfect'. This elicited a laugh - I was talking to a human... except as our conversation concluded she signed off with 'take care!' . Admirable and appropriate sentiments particularly as the only water we could drink is full of blue green algae but I had not noticed how common this admonition (may) have become. Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I don't know why "What can I get you ?" fell out of favour.
