#1 Diode spreadsheet help please?

Unread post by Paul Barker »

Having trouble with my computer skills.

Steve Bench pages used to have an xls spreadsheet which gave the means to work out which diodes to use for diode bias.

When I click the link it downloads as a word document not what it is called in the link (.XLA)

My pathetic ineptitude in windows 7 has completely failed me to A/ get the attribute shown in the files display, and does not allow me to change the .doc to .xla or .xls

Now I don't even have excel but if I could make it what it is supposed to be, an .XLS file I could import it to Google Docs.

Anyone fancy trying to change it to an XLS and send it to me attached to an email?

Thank you?

Thank you to Col.

He has managed to change the name and I can now open it in google docs as a spreadsheet. But sadly it opens as an image with no formulas.

I suspect it doesn't exist in it's original form on the interweb.

Unless anyone else can say different.

In past incarnations of my computers I had it downloaded as a working version. Drat!

Did you find a solution?

I've tried it Ubuntu, changed the file to .xls and opened it in LibreOffice
and it seems to work.
You can change the file type in Windows by selecting show file types,
and then changing .doc to .xls

Try

I hope Steffe is ok with me doing that.

I have hosted it on my Google Docs, as a Google Doc which makes it much more useful as open source.

Anyone can view it whether they have the link or not. But the link will save you searching.

OK so refreshing this. Found that Numbers on Apple devices run the dowloaded spreadsheet as it arrives (.xls) works fine in Numbers. In the same way Stephy’s 801a spread sheet works perfectly in numbers. Unfortunately my google spreadsheet is lost to me because my last few Apple devices Ive never signed into google on and I dont recall my password. Anyway the apple program numbers works xls files as if it were excell.

Anyway I need bias 20v 63mA, which one plate of the EZ80 provides those numbers with the K factor of 0.704. I had already been rumaging in my vakve diode drawer and using the voltage drop graph to see which would work. I had two close matches, the 6X5 and the above. The 6X5 Stephie had already listed and it gives 60mA at 20v. The characteristic curves are more acurately matched with the EZ80. Fortunately have more than a few of each, I was planning to go 6x5 originally but since the EZ80 is an exact match I’ll go with that. The curves its based on are normally for a single anode. As the cathode is rated at 90mA I will have to use two valve one per channel. Also only one plate each because the volt drop data refers to each anode.
