There are many and various books out there to show how one can control the mind, rather than the mind controlling us. :)

Though if they worked, I would expect the world would only need one.

PS. If you think you can ever control your mind, try taking LSD, that will quickly show how you are completely under the control of brain chemistry.

Not necessarily.

Belief that we are/ can be in control of our minds must be a comfort. The meek SHALL inherit the earth.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Indeed, given the absence of free will its all a bit moot talking about control anyway.

There are ways to quieten the mind, or to be less susceptible to the constant machinations that emanate from it.

I make no attempt to guide anyone who feels that is a path worth treading, each journey has to be personal, but mindfulness might be a good area to start.

You do realize you are contradicting yourself there don't you?

I had little choice but to take up mindfulness, meditation and the rest of it. I suffer from generalised anxiety disorder and the constant, at times deafening noise coming from my mind was driving me insane. I've been practising for four years and through it is far from easy, I dread to think what might have happened if I had not had mindfulness suggested to me.
I have a proper GAD diagnosis BTW and mindfulness was recommended by Doncaster IAPT. However, mindfulness and its associated practices is not about control as control is impossible; it is all about management. 99% of depression/anxiety related mental health problems cannot be cured, they can only be managed. This is not a negative, just a simple fact.

I think the most important part of any "journey" is the first step.

I have read many books on various subjects to do with the way we are, verses the way we might want to be. No one book has given me "the answer", but each book might have given me a little something that resonated with my own thoughts, and given me, In time , a way to cope. What works for me may well be of no use to anyone else.

To many people it's just new age bollocks, but it's their prerogative to think that. :)

Only if those first steps are not in a randomly distributed direction. If they are then its unlikely to be distinguishable from staring any number of journeys (including zero journeys). I think the above is just another example of a deepity https://www.philosophytalk.org/blog/dee ... d-bullshit

Well, I agree it would be the same without the adjective.

That link does not work for me, perhaps that's a good thing ?

I'm not a guru, people have to make up their own mind on anything I say.
