Sorry for the feedback delay but it was a long day and I didn't get home until about 21:30 - I don't actually remember getting into bed last night, just waking up at 6 this morning with the bedside lamp still on.

Anyway, It was "Awethum"! Here are my ride stats, pretty chuffed with them, my target was to beat 7hrs, I did it in under 6hrs at an average of 17.2mph.

I was riding strongly right to the end and it was great to be in a group for the charge to Tower Bridge at speeds around 30mph along silent dual-carriageways - riding a longish tunnel section, the speed was amazing and I can also claim to have ridden in the fast-lane of a six-lane 'motorway'. The only downsides to the day were the cold northerly wind and a heavy 10min downpour at about 70miles.

Sad to see this morning that someone was badly injured on the ride and needed to be air-lifted to hospital - the ride was paused for about half an hour though I didn't get held up as I had already passed - it is possible that it was caused by a puncture as a result of tacks on the road - there did seem to be more punctures than I would expect - anyway, I hope the person is OK.

So, some pictures.

This was 7:18 yesterday morning with riders entering the start channel.

Properly into the start channel at 07:26. At this point we still had to get up to Trafalgar Square, down Northumberland Avenue and along a fair bit of the Embankmnet before getting to the start line. It was pretty cold at this time. I actually started riding at 08:01.

Next pictures are at the finish on Tower Bridge at around 14:20

And here's one in the style of a DtB ride of old...

I should get some official photographs when they become available and I'll post in due course.

I should also say that not only did I exceed my target for my ride time but also for my fundraising.

Anyway, there were 10,000 riders for the 100mile route (the other 15,000 riders did the 30 or 60mile routes) - that's 1,000,000 miles of cycling!

I really hope tacks aren't the reason someone has been seriously hurt.

Interesting contrast of the press coverage of the road closures affecting different events.

The old chestnut about 'Cyclists don't pay road tax' comes out every time - of course they don't, nobody does.

You will have set it as a young man so I would hope so Mark, but I think it'll be interesting whether you will be able to beat my time when you're 64! :D

When I'm 64.

When I get older losing my hair
Many years from now
Will you still be sending me a Valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine
If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four
You'll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you
I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride
Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four
Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck and Dave
Send me a postcard, drop me a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

There's some video of the event below (a bit like a MikeH outing on his Ural). The guy did a similar time to me.

He must have been an early starter as Tower Bridge was really congested with riders by the time I arrived.

This is what I meant when I mentioned the charge through the tunnel to the finish, I was in a group and the speed was phenomenal through there.
